North Staffordshire Nuffield Hospital, based in Newcastle-under-Lyme, has 33 beds and provides a range of private health care services. The hospital has six operating theatres. Three of these are for minor procedures, the other three for more major operations. Of the major operating theatres, one has laminar flow. This is a clean air system, which reduces the risk of infection during operations. North Staffordshire Nuffield is able to perform surgery to treat breast and bowel cancer. Both of these cancer units are BUPA-approved. The hospital can also provide chemotherapy to treat the disease, and palliative care for those patients for whom an illness is terminal. The hospital provides diagnostic services for cancer as well - specifically mammography to diagnose breast cancer. Other diagnostic services at the hospital include MRI and CT scans, x-ray, ultrasound and cardiac catheterisation.
