The Spire Hospital Harpenden has 72 beds (including day case beds) and four operating theatres. Three of those theatres have laminar flow - this is a special clean air system which reduces the risk of infection during operations. There is one portable laminar flow available. The hospital has surgical services for breast and bowel cancer, and its breast care unit is BUPA-approved.
Spire Hospital Harpenden offers surgical services as well as Outpatient and Imaging services for children between 3 and 18 years old. There are always at least four members of staff on duty with Paediatric Advanced Life Support training, so there is good cover in the event of an emergency. There are four critical care beds at the hospital, and at least six staff with general Advanced Life Support training on site - this is a very good level of emergency cover. A Resident medical Officer is on site 24 hours a day. All of our Resident medical Officers are senior grade and have considerable experience in critical care level 2 and paediatric services.
