This specialist hospital in central Bath has an international reputation for research, and expertise in complex rehabilitation and rheumatology. The hospital offers specialist services in rheumatology, chronic pain management, neuro rehabilitation and chronic fatigue syndrome/ME. Diagnostic services such as Upper GI Endoscopy, Flexible Sigmoidoscopy, and bone density scanning are also provided. Services are offered at a local, regional and national level to adults, children, and young adults on an inpatient, day case, and outpatient basis.
Neuro Rehabilitation: We provide assessment and intensive rehabilitation for adults and young people with a wide range of complex neurological conditions, including brain injury and stroke. We have a high dependency unit and our Young People's Neuro Rehabilitation unit is one of a few in England dedicated to the rehabilitation of young people (aged 16-25). We have particular expertise in 'locked in' syndrome and providing assessment and treatment for individuals in a minimally conscious state.
Pain Services: We provide a range of intensive residential rehabilitation programmes to address the variety of needs and complexity seen in chronic pain across the lifespan (11+ years). The hospital was the first in Europe to offer an adolescent (11-18yrs) pain management programme which remains the only residential pain management programme for this age group in the UK. Our pain management programme for young adults (18-30yrs) is the first of its kind in the UK. We are also one of the few providers of adult (18+yrs) residential pain management services in the UK.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome / ME: The hospital offers specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment for people with CFS/ME. We have particular expertise in helping and supporting children who are severely affected with this condition.
Rheumatology: General and specialist services include Osteoporosis, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, Connective Tissue disease, Paget's disease and Ankylosing Spondylitis. There are specific programmes for Ankylosing Spondylitis and Outpatient coping courses for Fibromyalgia, and a sports injuries clinic.
All services are delivered by specialist teams including consultants, nurses and therapists who will work with the patient in the treatment, management and education of their condition.
The hospital has high quality standards and a proven track record in cleanliness and infection control as reflected by our high scores in the Healthcare Commission measures for MRSA.
The city centre location is ideal for effective rehabilitation and integration into the community. The trust is well served by public transport links; Bath Spa railway station, and a number of car parks are a 5min walk away, and there are frequent bus and park and ride services that pass close to the hospital.
